How does critical design emerge, the attempt to counter consumer culture with a social consciousness with the intention not only to serve customers but also to shape visual culture, even the whole of culture and society? The project focused on typography, a visual language that can be interpreted both in the field of art and design. The exhibition presented historical and contemporary projects and publications from the boundary of design and the visual arts in three groups: Typographical utopias, Anti-and Parallel design, Subversive design.
Besides the documentation of the exhibition the publication contains reproduction of the exhibited artworks and art publications, artists' texts written by authors such as Lajos Kassák, Attila Cosovan, Société Réaliste, Ryszard Wasko, Plágium 2000 and Mladen Stilinović. The catalogue also contains an essay on the history of Hungarian typography compiled by Márton Orosz.
The catalogue is available in the tranzit. hu office.
